~Winewall to Wycoller~

31st December 2009

My brother, Peter, invited me on a local walk. Peter does a lot of walking in the Borough of Pendle and he suggested a walk which would incorporate a bite to eat. We parked at Ball Grove car park, Cotton Tree nr.Colne....

Winewall Cottages

Scroll down for photos and a description of the walk

Pendle Hill

Winewall is a hamlet in Eastest Lancashire. Close to Trawden and approached via Cotton Tree. This view is on offer to local residents. The terraces and graveyard belong to Colne.

Country Lane near Winewall

Our route took us away from Winewall and off into the countryside en route for Wycoller. This is a typical scene as we move away from the hamlet.

Snow Spheres

Up on the hillside is the long since closed Herders Inn on the road from Laneshawbridge to Haworth.

Wycoller Packhorse Bridge

Perhaps not the best angle or light for a photograph of this ancient structure. I wanted to keep cars out of the photo, they lurk just over the bridge.

Wycoller Tea Rooms

Dogs and muddy boots welcome. I've been visiting here for most of the 25 years that they have been open, it is a lovely place. Be warned: at busy times the proprietors will put up a sign saying that they cannot take any more orders for a period of time. Cyclists are also welcome, which is a pity ;-)

Erosion

The footpath from Wycoller to Laneshawbridge is suffering from erosion. This warning sign has fallen victim to the passage of time.

The bank is eroding and we wonder where the footpath will be in 10 years time. Laneshawbridge in the background. Our walk continued along the river back to Ball Grove. Another day I'll show more of this last section of the walk and a little bit more about Ball Grove and Cotton Tree.

Walkers: Peter Ratcliffe and Me
